Image In the late 1980’s repeated efforts were made to form a housing corporation as part of   NELCO (North Evergreen Lahser Community Organization), the 20-year-old community organization which had the same boundaries as the present NEW  HOPE; i.e., Six Mile north to Eight Mile and Southfield Road west to Telegraph Road. When all efforts failed, Father Donald Archambault, chair of the NELCO Housing Committee at the time, and Mr. James Pack, a retired community resident, invited community people including all the members of NELCO to form a separate non-profit for housing.  This was named NEW HOPE by Herman Unsleber, one of the original members of the board. The year was 1990 and NEW HOPE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT NON-PROFIT HOUSING CORPORATION was founded.

New Hope has played a part in many youth programs and activities over the years.

The Board of Directors, Executive Director and Staff embarked upon the Longacre Project which included the construction of new homes as well as the renovation of existing homes and landscapes. The plans for this project include the building of up to fifty (50) new homes. To date New Hope has refurbished over twenty-five (25) homes, built twenty-two (22) brand new ones and will begin the next phase of six new homes in the month of April.
