New Hope's History |

|
In the late 1980’s repeated efforts were made to form a housing corporation as part of NELCO (North Evergreen Lahser Community Organization), the 20-year-old community organization which had the same boundaries as the present NEW HOPE; i.e., Six Mile north to Eight Mile and Southfield Road west to Telegraph Road. When all efforts failed, Father Donald Archambault, chair of the NELCO Housing Committee at the time, and Mr. James Pack, a retired community resident, invited community people including all the members of NELCO to form a separate non-profit for housing. This was named NEW HOPE by Herman Unsleber, one of the original members of the board. The year was 1990 and NEW HOPE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT NON-PROFIT HOUSING CORPORATION was founded.

|
New Hope Community Development Non-Profit Housing Corporation was founded in 1990 to create and implement a strategic plan for revitalizing a six square mile neighborhood of Northwest Detroit. New Hope's goals are to stablize and promote a vital community for existing home owners and to provide adequate, affordable housing for qualified individuals and families who are committed to help continue the tradition of responsible home ownership in the neighborhood. New Hope's revitalization efforts coincide with the goals of existing block clubs and community organizations. |

LONGACRE PROJECT |

These beautiful two story colonials are part of an on going project called "Longacre". New Hope has built 22 homes in this six block subdivision and is planning to build over 45 more. Plans are being worked out to restore and demolish run down and abandoned buildings in the area. This is a neighborhood in the making. New Hope is trying to build the kind of community where the residents work together to accomplish what needs to be done. Every six months we come together to establish new relationships and let everyone know what to expect in the coming months. This gives the established residents a chance to meet the new homeowners that have bought or are buying into our community. These three bedroom, 2 and 1/2 baths, full basements and one and 1/2 car garage homes are selling for $129,000.00 with Down Payment Assistance available as needed to those that qualify. Some homes have income restrictions. This means that the home buyer's gross annual income may not exceed a certain amount (see the chart below). If you would like to know more you can call 313-255-6275.
