Irene was born and raised in Germany and came to the United States in 1963. She was married for 39 years, and raised three children.
Irene is a founding member of New Hope and long-time board member. She was on the fundraising committee for 10 years, and was head of the 700 raffle fundraising team. She is currently the chairperson of the housing committee, and seller of about 200 raffle tickets for the last seven years.
Her husband, Hermann, was also a founding member of New Hope. He gave the organization its name. He was very active on the board and in the organization until he passed away in 2002.
Irene has also been an active member of a local German club for the past 43 years.
She has been actively involved in Corpus Christi Church (formerly St. Gerard) for 44 years. She is the captain of a Eucharistic Minister team, on the funeral luncheon team, former coffee and donut hospitality team member, and former Bingo worker.
She is also very involved in her home owner's association. She was vice president for five years, and block director for over 10 years.
In the summer, she enjoys riding her bicycle around the neighborhood and talking to neighbors. She enjoys gardening and her flowers are her pride and joy.
